Food around Athens is in the news!

Food Around Athens is in the news again;  #NEWSMAG interviews entrepreneur Rachel Montague.

Interview with a woman who decided to invest in Greece. “Food tours are here to stay”

Rachel Montague is from England and decided to start her own business in Greece following the new trend of food experiences. That is how the company Food Around Athens was born. Let’s see what she has to say about starting her business.

What is Food Around Athens?

Food Around Athens is a new company that offers tourists a fun, relaxed and informal way to learn more about Greek cuisine and its role in the Greek culture. We take our guests on a walking tour around the liveliest areas of Athens and present them to some of the best food that Greece has to offer.

Why did you start a Food Tour business?

Because I love Athens and I love Greek food! Everyone wants to do what they love most and this project allows me and my team to work on something that we really feel passionate about – ensuring that tourists will see the best of our amazing city and all the wonderful tastes, sights and experiences that it can offer.

Why should I book a food tour?

Most people who decide to book a tour in the city, want to see and experience the place but they have not enough time to do that. If they come on one of our tours, they will see, try and learn much more about Greek cuisine and sights. In addition, they will avoid the tourist traps and visit off the beaten track places where real Athenians go for shopping and eating. And one of the things I love most about the tours is that at the end of the day, people from all over the world exchange phone numbers and send Facebook friend requests to each other. Our tours are also a great way to make new friends.

What do you like most about Greece?

On top of my list are the people, the way they see life, their hospitality and the genuine warm feelings and friendship that they offer to everyone. Then, of course, there is the weather! Coming from the United Kingdom, I could never have imagined the light of Greece until I moved here. I also love the mountains and the beautiful beaches and of course – the food!

Have you encountered difficulties when you started your business in Greece?

There have been a number of bureaucratic obstacles to overcome, mainly because I am not from Greece and I have little knowledge of how to do things here. But fortunately, some very good friends helped me and really supported me in any way that they could.

What are your goals for the future?

My first love will always be Athens! But there are so many incredible places here, all with their own unique food story. So maybe in the next two years, we will talk about “Food around Thessaloniki”, “Food around Crete” – so many possibilities.
